Went down to Osaka Port over the weekend to look at furniturecan be expensive!) The store we went to is in the Asia TradeCenter, which is dead as dead as dead.
Oddly, on the port. No idea why it was pretty much exclusivelygirls.
Mini-Bash thought the cosplayers were like Disneyland characters— meaning, that they’re always there.
He wandered around trying to find characters he knew, but sincehe hasn’t playingFinal Fantasy VII(Hi Tifa!) or hasn’tseenLucky Star(Hey Konata), he didn’t find any characters hewanted to take his picture with. (Side note: Explaining to him whoHatsune Miku washard)
Mini-Bash did find some kids cosplayingas Taro Okamoto’s statueTaiyo noTou.
Keep in mind, I’ve seen tons of impressive costumes,tons.Enough for a lifetime. But cosplaying asTaiyo no Tou? Thatwas an elaborate foam job, with a mess slit for vision.
While all the other and wearing girly costumes or dressed asdudes, theTaiyo no Toucosplayer, until… Until he ran intoa street sign.
The kid wasn’t hurt, but saddened to see Taiyo no Tou shuffleoff into a sea of girls with frilly dresses.

Nintendo’s popularDS handheld hit a milestone earlier this month,topping100million of the portables shipped worldwide. But a much moreimportant milestone looms.

Despitenow being nine years old, the thing most prevalent on thecutting edge isn’t always the consumer’s mind.
And Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter points outthat Sony is just now starting to tap into the markets in LatinAmerica, Eastern Europe, and perhaps one day, Africa.
“This is Sony, the Playstation 2 is going to be around forawhile,” he said.
Recent rumors even suggest that the popular console might begetting a price drop as early as next month, to under $100.
While Sony’s Kim Nguyen, marketing manager for the Playstation 2is still going quite strong.
“Our ninth year is still as strong as ever,” she said. “We havea bunch of titles that are supporting the social gaming positionfor the PS2.”
With 1,900 games currently available for the console, 450 ofwhich continue to operate online, and another70 new titlesexpected out this year, support from The NielsenCompany.
Nguyen says that as families increasingly tend to “hibernate”,staying in their homes for entertainment, sales of the PS2 isexceeding their expectations at places like Wal-Mart.
“In North America alone, one in three families own a PS2,” shesaid, “and we still have plenty of room to grow.”
But eventually pulling ahead of the PS2.
“One hundred million is a really broad base acceptance.
“With the family& now I think they are going to try and movethe DSi up to a broader market.”
Marc Franklin, director of public relations for the DS family ofhandhelds and says it shows thatconsumers have appreciated what the system can do.
And the$169 DSi, he says, will give gamers and non-gamers andnon-gamers alike a new type of experience.
“DSi delivers a new experience, much like when the DS entered anentirely new experience,” he said. “Now we’re taking that anotherstep and being able to download games.
“Those features are going to the consumer.”
